Beating the Storm for a Beautiful Grand Canyon Sunrise

After arriving at the Grand Canyon just in time for a fantastic sunset, I was happy to have gotten in a little photography.  As a photographer, I know that conditions aren't guaranteed and patience and repetition are a huge factor in having a successful photo shoot.  So when you only have an opportunity for one sunset and one sunrise, you hold you breath hoping a least something is successful, but never expecting both.

Just Enough Time for the Sunset in the Grand Canyon

If you've noticed that things have been quiet around here, you're right.  Forrest and I recently packed up our lives and set off for the west coast where we have settled in Palo Alto in the San Francisco Bay area of California.  We rushed through 4 days of driving in hopes of spending a few hours in the Grand Canyon along our journey.  We pulled in just in time for sunset along the south rim.

A Step Back in Time at Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg is just a hop, skip, and a jump away and yet it's somewhere I visit once a year, if that.  I hadn't actually been inside any of the buildings and exhibits since I was probably in middle school!  So, when a photography friend visited with her family, I tagged along one day as they toured the historical area.  I was impressed with the accuracy and the rich knowledge that the guides offered and how through the exhibits were.  As we toured the buildings, I was in awe of the displays, particularly the desks and the makers spaces.

Exploring the Big Easy.... A Visit to New Orleans

This spring I attended a photography workshop in New Orleans.  I had never been to the Big Easy before, so I made sure to arrive a day early and stay a day late to give myself time to explore the city and find out what all the fuss was about!  I'll be honest, I was a little bit surprised when I fell in love with it there.  I expected old, dirty, dingy, and smelly with people falling into the street after a few too many.... much like a frat house I went to once (okay, okay, it was more than once!).  And while there was plenty of that, there was also charming streets filled with historic homes and beautiful gardens, bright colorful art work and smiling faces, and the most beautiful music pouring out of each speaker I passed.  I was disappointed when I boarded the plane home to not have booked a few more days to see it all.... and especially hear more of that jazz!
