Spring at the Washington DC Botanic Gardens

To be honest, I didn't even know that Washington DC had a Botanic Garden.  In late April, I jumped in the car with Forrest as I headed up to DC for a quick business trip.  It was a last minute, whirlwind trip and I spent a few minutes in the car looking for what I'd seek out to photograph during the one day I had in the city.  I knew that I wanted to start before sunrise at the Washington Monument and end at sunset at the Jefferson Memorial.  The cherry blossoms were past peak and more where swirling around in the wind than blooming on the trees.  But the Botanic Gardens didn't disappoint.  Inside, hundreds of orchids and other exotic species were blooming.  The buildings were filled with tourists and school groups, marveling at the beautiful plants.  Outside, the trees were blooming, filling the air with color and fragrance.
