Now that we’re friends, call me Jenny 💛

Originally from Virginia Beach, my photographic journey now takes me far beyond my hometown. Whether I’m wandering the sandy shores of Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks, climbing through the peaks of the Pacific Northwest, or discovering new horizons across the globe, my camera is always close at hand.

I photograph landscapes, nature, and travel across digital, film, and instant formats—each medium offering its own way of telling a story. Photography, to me, is more than documenting a scene; it’s about creating a connection and inviting you into the moment. My hope is that each image brings you a little closer to the wonder I felt when making it.

My deep connection to the outdoors is at the forefront of my work. The quiet strength of nature inspires me endlessly, encouraging a sense of presence and belonging that I strive to reflect in every frame.

How it all started….

My photography journey began in 2003 with a simple goal—capturing local sights for my own walls. When I ran out of room, Jennifer Carr Photography was born. Since then, I’ve built a diverse portfolio—from energetic art shows and intimate portraits to dynamic sports, commercial branding, and real estate photography. You name it; I’ve probably captured it.

Along the way, I discovered my true passion—empowering others in their photographic journeys. As a self-taught photographer, I understand the challenges firsthand—from deciphering camera settings to wondering why technically sound images still feel flat. For over eight years, through one-on-one mentoring and immersive retreats, I’ve guided more than 300 photographers toward greater confidence, stronger skills, and a renewed joy in their craft.

Connection and support have always guided my path—whether I was ringing up groceries, line dancing as a waitress, or supporting people in their careers as an HR executive, I’ve always wanted to help others navigate their journeys. I still remember choosing my college major—young me telling my dad, “I just want to help people, Daddy.” That same desire remains the driving force behind everything I do today.

Things I’d tell you if we were chatting over coffee

First, I'd admit I wish this were a glass of Syrah—and then I’d ask how you like your pizza. Anyone who knows me knows I’m always thinking about our next meal.

But then I’d ask how the sunrise made you feel—those fleeting moments, those raw emotions that I live to capture (and help you capture too). I’d invite you on an adventure: waking up way too early, hiking uphill or across sand, camera gear in tow. You’d grumble about how crazy I am until the destination unfolds in a way only magic can deliver—and then you’d ask when we go again. And then we'd smile and head back down the trail to the lunch I promised would be waiting for you – and you'd ask when we could do it again. These are the kinds of unforgettable experiences I strive to create and capture, and share with others.

Does this sound like the kind of photographic journey you'd love to embark on? If you're ready to explore your own visual adventures, reach out, and let's talk! And don’t forget to tell me how you’d like your pizza!
