My Indoor Plants

"How lovely the silence of growing things." ~ Unknown

Winter isn't kind to my love of nature.  The cold weather, biting wind, and bare trees make me more inclined to hide out indoors than to see solace on a nature walk.  But my indoor plants seem to thrive in the winter.  They love the warm sunlight that streams through the sunroom windows, pulling them towards the sky.  Each winter, I find myself in the garden center, rescuing half dead plants from the clearance rack, bringing them home into the warmth of my care.  Caring for plants is a place of serenity for me.  A moment or two of quiet in a otherwise noisy week.  The plants don't need much, just some water and maybe a touch of food, but they reward me with their beauty each time I walk past them.

This winter I added to my collection an English Ivy, a tiny succulent, and a beautiful lady slipper Orchid.  So far they are thriving, keeping me warm and content until the green returns outdoors.
