I am completely captivated each time I see the Oregon Inlet Lifesaving Station.  Worn, weathered, and vandalized, the building sits vacant as the hostess welcoming you to Hatteras Island.  The building was built in 1898 and once served to aid mariners passing through Oregon Inlet.  It was vacated in 1988 and left to Dare County, who turned the station over to the North Carolina Aquarium.  Funding has stalled on the project, and now it simply sits.
