Our Month in Ecuador- Searching for Surf in Ayampe

Ayampe, Ecuador

Ayampe, Ecuador

After our day trip to the lively town of Montanita, we sought out a quieter day in the sleepy village of Ayampe. A dirt road town that feels miles away from Montanita’s vendor lined streets, Ayampe is known more for it’s focus on healthy living and serenity.

After arriving in the rain, we made our way to Otra Ola, a surf, Spanish, and yoga school offering an organic cafe and surfboard rentals.

We made our way to the beach where Forrest headed for the waves while I found a small cabana to seek out shelter from the misty rain. The water was much to cold for me to have any interest in paddling out without a wetsuit. Instead, I explored the beautiful beaches, met the local beach dogs, and sought out beautiful turquoise rocks that littered the sand.

After bobbing around in the surf for a while and deeming the waves "unrideable,” Forrest returned to shore and we sought out lunch. We found a tiny cafe tucked just off the beach road offering the most delicious smelling roasted tomato soup and fresh baked cakes.

After our tummies were full, we hit the dirt path towards the bus stop, taking in the lush flower lined streets and local wildlife on our slow stroll.
