A Windy Snow Hike at White River Sno Park

Looking back at the photos, you’d think it was a calm and clear day on the snowy terrain of the White River Sno Park at Mount Hood. In reality, the winds were blowing upwards of 30 miles and hour, whipping snow off the mountain top and making it fall like confetti. Clear skies won over the windy conditions, though, as we headed along the banks of the White River towards Mount Hood for a beautiful afternoon snow hike.

The easy access of the sno park makes this the perfect trail to visit in the depths of winter. While the route is pretty straight forward, the trails can vary based on snow conditions. If the snow is fresh and powdery, this is the perfect trail for snowshoeing. Once the snow is packed, microspikes will do the trick. And if you’re more adventurous than me, you can skin up on your skis to ride the powder covered hills on the shoulder of Mount Hood.
