Tiny Squares on the Polaroid Go

The August San Francisco Instant Photo Walk took us from Little Italy up the steep hill to Coit Tower. Polaroid was in town for the big Pokemon convention and graciously gifted us packs of film. In the spirit of the gift, we spent the walk searching for Pokemon yellow throughout our route.

My main goal of the day was to work with the tiny Polaroid Go to capture (mostly) simple compositions in the barely 2 inch square frame. My previous attempts with this camera were either too wide, too busy, or too close, so I was determined to find a way to make it work for me. I ended up delighted with my completed pack, 8 frames that I was super excited about.

By seeking out simpler compositions, I was able to create images that allowed the subjects to be recognizable and understandable in the small frame size, rather that a complicated wide angle filled with details or a close up that ended up out of focus. I used framing and light to direct attention in the image, not simply relying on the subject itself to pop off the frame. And while my lines could use a bit of straightening, overall, the images are balanced in their tiny frames.
