Stumbling Upon Beauty | Hatteras Island Photographer

When you think of the beach, you don't necessarily think about wildflowers.  But each summer, the dunes near our beach house come alive with wild ornamental sweet potato vines.  The vines weave through the dune grasses, fences, trees, and pathways, brightening the neutral color scheme with vibrant purple flowers.  On this particular morning, I had gone to the Avon Fishing Pier to watch sunrise.  On my way back to the truck, I noticed the vines twisted in to the old dune fence and immediately stopped in my tracks.  While it's always incredible to find the beauty that we're seeking, sometimes it's the beauty that surprises us which is the most rewarding.
