Sunrise Walk at the Cape Hatteras Hotel
The Cape Hatteras Hotel sits at the edge of the village of Buxton. Late last fall, an extensive dredging project was completed, widening the beach near the hotel to the size of a football field. But unfortunately after a series of Nor’easters battered the Hatteras Island coast this winter, most of the dredged sand has made it’s way back into the ocean. Parts of the beach south of the hotel are already being eaten away, even by the calmest of seas.
I decided to vary my routine and check out the beach there at sunrise. I took a walk with the Sony a7rIII + 24-70 G Master lens. The sunrise itself wasn’t my favorite, but it was fun to get a new perspective on the shoreline. The moon hung high in the sky, and the guests at the motel were just beginning to stir. A beach fence had been stretched across the sand and I worked to find a spot to create an image showcasing it’s beauty.
