Private In-Person Photography Lesson

from $225.00

This private, 1.5-hour hands-on lesson is designed around your unique technical and creative goals. Whether you are a beginner getting comfortable with your camera or an experienced photographer looking to refine your voice, our time in the field is entirely tailored to your experience level and interests.

We will head outdoors to an agreed-upon location, working with the local landscape and changing light in real time.

Some of the topics we can focus on include:

  • Mastering Manual Mode: Fully understanding how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO work together so your camera finally does what you want it to do.

  • Cranking Up Your Focus: Pinpointing focusing modes and points to get clean, intentional frames every time.

  • Reading the Light: Learning how to read histograms, manage tricky exposure challenges, and use creative metering.

  • Chasing the Sun: Practicing how to work with any conditions, from bright midday glare and flat overcast skies to the subtle colors of sunrise, sunset, and twilight.

  • Location Planning: How to approach a new scene, plan a successful shoot, and figure out exactly what to photograph when conditions aren’t what you had hoped for.

  • Specialized Techniques: Diving into landscape, nature, travel, or macro photography, as well as specific tools like long exposures, astrophotography, manual focus, and experimenting with Lensbaby lenses.

Location Details: In-person sessions are available throughout the San Jose and San Francisco Bay Area. Lessons on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks and in Virginia Beach are scheduled seasonally. If you are on the East Coast, please send a quick message through the contact form to chat about upcoming dates before booking.
