Over Thanksgiving weekend, we made an impromptu trip to Colorado. We were thrilled when we learned that the area was hit with almost two feet of snow two days before we were schedule to arrive. We packed up our cold weather gear and snowshoes and boarded the plane.

The snow covered scenery certainly didn’t disappoint and we spent our first afternoon on the trails at The Flatirons, Boulder’s most famous site. The cold air didn’t feel quiet so cold when you saw the smiles on the other hiker’s faces.

The next day called for snow showers but the sky was beautiful when we set off for Rocky Mountain National Park. We passed herd of elk on our way to Deer Mountain. Deer Mountain offered the perfect summit with an incredible view of the surrounding peaks and valleys.

The following morning dawned crystal clear and we stopped at the Flatirons for a sunrise view on our way out of town. It was truly beautiful to see the peaks bathed in the warm light of the rising sun.

My camera spent most of our remaining days in my bag as I learned how to cross country ski. I’m hoping that once I get a little better, I’ll be able to travel to shoot gorgeous winter scenes in back country locations.
