Rows of Color at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm

Visiting a tulip farm is often considered one of the “must-do” spring activities in the Pacific Northwest. I barely squeezed in crossing off this goal just a few weeks before our move to California when I joined my friend Nadeen at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Oregon. After meandering around The Oregon Garden and we headed to the tulip farm to capture the beautiful rows of color in the late afternoon light.

Seeing the rows and rows of colorful flowers covering acres of the farm was something that you can’t quite describe in words or accurately capture in a single photograph. I spent the evening working to create images which showed both the beauty of the larger scenes while also appreciating the individual flowers themselves. I was particularly drawn to the rows where a flower stood out as an anomaly- a red bulb mistakenly placed amongst the field of yellow.

The distant form of my beloved Mount Hood made its way into the background of many of the rows. However, I was never able to capture a clean composition of the rows of flowers in front of the first “big” mountain I hiked back in 2008.

I photographed this special place using digital, film, and Polaroid. And honestly, it’s hard to choose a favorite, so here is a massive share of photographs.
