The Beautiful Variety of Birds in the Skagit Valley

One of my favorite ways to spend a winter day is with a drive to the Skagit Valley area in search of birds. On any given day, you can spot an endless number of species, if you’re patient enough. While many birdwatchers and photographers are solely there to seek out the short eared owls, I’m happy with spotting the common red breast of a robin or the life list feather pattern of a juvenile bald eagle. On this day, I had great luck with the owls in the afternoon, but the morning and midday were spent observing many other beautiful bird species.

And if you find yourself in the area when the birds are scarce, you might still be rewarded with some spectacular views of Mount Baker.
