The Power of Creative Community: Why Every Photographer Needs to attend a Retreat

Photography can be a lonely practice. So much of it happens by ourselves, sitting behind a camera or in front of a computer screen, figuring it all out alone. We chase the light, study the gear, and try to push through creative ruts entirely on our own. But things change when you step out of that solitude and into a space with people who share your interests. And that is what The Saltwater Retreat is really about.

While the retreat is a quiet place to relax, reset, and focus on both the technical and creative practice of photography, a huge impact of the experience comes from the women who show up alongside you. There is no pretense, no judgment, and zero expectation to be at a certain level. You get to be exactly who you are, where you are.

"It was a safe place to be totally honest about skill level, fears, and apprehensions without judgement. I loved how ALL the women were inclusive, supportive and honest!" — Terrie L.

We look at things side by side, sharing ideas and inspiring each other. It is a safe place to ask any question, try a technique you have been intimidated by, and remember why you fell in love with photography in the first place.

"I remember feeling heard and appreciated for who I am as a woman and as a photographer... There wasn't any room for competition so photographers with all skill levels seem to feel quite comfortable." — Candice K.

Whether you need a hand getting to the beach, a splinter removed, a spot while you’re working to get that perfect shot… That is what the retreat feels like. It is a space where you are taken care of, watched out for, and supported.

“The week took strangers and turned them into friends.” — Kim C.

When I look through my phone’s camera roll after a retreat, the photos thatmake me smile are never the polished pieces. They are the quick, behind-the-scenes glimpses of the actual time we shared.

If you have been thinking about joining us at The Saltwater Retreat women’s photography retreat, this is the time to jump in. We would love to have you on the beach with us.
