Long Exposure Photography at Eagle Lake on Mount Desert Island

Before our photography trip to Maine, I purchased a new set of filters from Breakthrough Photography. I had grown tired of the cumbersome Lee Filter Kit and the horrible color cast I always fought to edit in Lightroom. Our afternoon at Eagle Lake was my first opportunity to give the filters a go. The wind was quite strong that day, causing plenty of texture on the water. Using a 10 Stop Neutral Density filter, I was able to smooth the water, creating a stillness that was lost on the windy day. I also enjoyed the movement that the long exposure added to the sky with the clouds turning into wisps. As soon as I viewed the images, I knew I was hooked on Breakthrough because of their ease of use and lack of color cast. However, I was surprised to find that I preferred the images with a shorter exposure time as it allowed me to “hear” the waves lapping the shore on the warm, sunny afternoon.
